Hope My pessimistic friend says that I am a joke That I am too optimistic because I am called Hope. We were once ‘one’ before but he made a choice one day To remove me from his life, now he lives in a hope-less way. He blames me for the pain and misery he suffers from all the time. I have tried to tell him to change because his choices are his not mine. You see I am what is considered a good thing I have lost count of the many joys and anticipated blessings I bring. There are so many people that look forward to a brighter day So I am constantly called upon to show them the way. I work hand in hand with a wonderful loyal dedicated friend His name is Faith and he is strong, resilient and does not bend. All good things come in threes so I am told That probably explains why we have a third partner who is so glorious and bold. He is the greatest of the three of us, full of passion and so strong There is nothing He cannot do, and when you repent He forgives your every wrong. The Macbeth Story: For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul Matthew 16 verse 26 Most people know the story of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare. They have either read the book at school like I did when I was younger or they have seen the movie like I did recently. Some people say that Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s tragedies. I say that Macbeth had two choices and he made the wrong one. To me, the witches symbolise words that can be sown into either good or bad soil and in the case of Macbeth according to Shakespeare they were sown into bad soil. So here is a basic summary of the story: Duncan is the reigning king of Scotland. There is a battle, Macbeth, and his fellow officer Banquo are victorious despite there being many casualties on all sides. They meet some witches on the moor who tell Macbeth that he is going to be the Thane of Cawdor and then the King of Scotland. They also tell Banquo that although he would never be king he would beget a line of Scottish kings, meaning that his descendants would be kings. Not long after King Duncan has the current Thane of Cawdor killed because of treason and sends some men to give the title of Thane of Cawdor to Macbeth on the battlefield. This obviously sets Macbeth on the path of thinking that if the first thing predicted by the witches has come true, maybe the next would soon follow. Who have you appreciated recently? I am currently in Arizona and saw something on the TV that really touched me. A group of teachers in High School (Secondary School in the UK), took time out to tell the student who had really positively affected them how much they appreciated them. It was so good to see how happy the teachers were and how emotional and happy the students were by being positively affirmed. It also made me think – how often do I tell people how much I appreciate them? What we say can either lift people up or bring them down A scripture in the Bible says ‘Life and death are in the power of the tongue’. This means that you can say positive things and bring happiness to people or say negative things and bring sadness to people. I and all at GLL Publishing choose to say positive things and bring happiness to people and we are truly overwhelmed by all the support people have given us by sharing our positive inspirational photos and liking us. We have recently started our ‘What if..’ campaign where we hope to get people thinking about others and how to treat people positively.
